A woman who falsely claimed to be the sister of a Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) and obstructed the duties of traffic police officers in Gampaha has been remanded until November 3 by the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court.

The suspect was taken into custody after a video went viral on social media showing her arguing heatedly with two traffic police officers in the Kotugoda–Udugampola area within the Gampaha Police Division.

According to police, the woman, who had been driving a car, failed to comply with an order to stop issued by traffic officers and fled the scene. She was later confronted at the Udugampola Junction, where the altercation occurred, and subsequently arrested at the Minuwangoda Police Junction after once again ignoring police directions.

Police investigations have confirmed that her claim of being related to a high-ranking police officer was completely fabricated.

She faces multiple charges, including dangerous and negligent driving, disobeying police instructions, and obstructing a public servant in the execution of lawful duties.

The Gampaha Magistrate ordered that she be remanded in custody until November 3.
