The MPs concerned have reportedly submitted their requests to the Speaker and the heads of the security forces, and these have been forwarded to the Ministry of Defense for consideration.
A special discussion on the security of MPs was held recently under the chairmanship of the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Following the meeting, both the Speaker and the IGP agreed to take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of parliamentarians.
However, it has not been decided to issue firearms to all MPs. Authorities have decided that such approvals will be granted only after evaluating the individual threat levels faced by each MP.
