Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has urged Sri Lankan medical specialists working overseas to return to the country, assuring that they will be reinstated in their respective grades with full service benefits and facilities.
Speaking at a meeting of Sri Lankan doctors organized by the Sri Lankan High Commission in the United Kingdom during his recent visit, Dr. Jayatissa emphasized the urgent need for specialist doctors in the country.
He noted that producing a medical specialist requires significant time, effort, and resources—especially in the current economic and social climate—and appealed to Sri Lankan-born doctors to serve their motherland during this critical period.
The Minister further pledged that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure returning specialists receive proper placement and facilities to continue their professional work in Sri Lanka.
The medical conference, organized in collaboration with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), saw the participation of a large number of Sri Lankan specialists, doctors, and professionals based in the UK.
