The Sri Lanka Navy formally received firearms for Onboard Security Teams (OBST), as part of its initiative to support maritime security operations for foreign Private Maritime Security Companies (PMSCs).

The handover ceremony was held at the OBST Armoury Complex in Galle, where the Navy accepted firearms, ammunition, and related equipment under the provisions of Gazette Extraordinary No. 2449/27 dated 13 August 2025.

Under the agreements with local PMSC representatives, the Navy will oversee the safe storage and transportation of all OBST firearms and equipment.

As part of the event, the Navy also briefed over twenty local PMSC representatives on naval facilities, operational procedures, and safety protocols, strengthening cooperation with industry stakeholders.
