Forme MP and former Chairman of the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation, Hussein Ahamed Bhaila, was arrested this morning by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over allegations of causing a financial loss exceeding Rs. 99 million to the government.

Bhaila was taken into custody after appearing before the Commission to give a statement regarding the importation of 50 temporary warehouses in 2015. Investigations have revealed that the warehouses were imported without necessity, resulting in a loss of Rs. 99,679,799 to the Corporation and the government, while providing an undue financial benefit of the same amount to an external party.

The suspect is expected to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
