The free distribution of shopping bags used for carrying goods will be prohibited from tomorrow (01), according to a special gazette notification issued by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) on October 1.

The gazette states that traders are not permitted to provide shopping bags made from Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) or Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) materials free of charge to consumers during sales transactions.

Furthermore, the price charged for such shopping bags must be clearly indicated on the customer’s bill, and from November 1 onwards, traders are also required to display the price of the bags prominently at their business premises.
