The order was issued when the suspects were produced before Matara Chief Magistrate Chathuraya Dissanayake today (30).
A total of nine suspects, including the shooter and the motorcyclist, have been taken into custody by the police over the incident.
Among those produced before the court today were the shooter’s wife, an individual who helped him hide in Kekirawa, and two others who assisted him in the Sahaspura area of Borella.
In addition, a three-wheeler driver from Agulugaha, Galle, who provided transportation to the shooter before and after the killing, the owner of a garage in Walana, Weligama, who repaired the motorcycle used in the crime, and a youth from Polathumodara, who delivered the motorcycle to the suspects, were also produced before the Magistrate.
During the proceedings, the Magistrate questioned the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) regarding the legal provisions under which they intend to proceed against the suspects arrested by both the Weligama Police and the FCID.
The FCID informed the court that the suspects would be charged under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
Meanwhile, the shooter and the motorcyclist remain in FCID custody, with the Colombo Magistrate’s Court having issued 90-day detention orders against them.
