The government today launched its “Ratam Ekata – National Mission”, a nationwide campaign aimed at eliminating drug abuse and trafficking across Sri Lanka.
The inaugural program was held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Authorities described the mission as a comprehensive effort to safeguard the country’s youth and schoolchildren from the dangers of drugs.
The initiative will operate through community engagement and inter-agency cooperation, targeting both the supply and demand sides of the drug problem. Participating organizations include schools, universities, police, tri-forces, divisional secretariats, and local government bodies.
Officials from all Provincial Councils, District Secretariats, Divisional Secretariats, and Local Government Institutions are expected to take a formal pledge to actively support the program’s objectives.
Government sources emphasized that the mission will combine awareness programs, preventive measures, and enforcement actions to ensure a coordinated national response to the drug menace.
