President Dissanayake says that the drug crisis has severely endangered the lives of youth and schoolchildren, evolving into a major socio-economic problem across the country.
Under this initiative, several key measures have been planned including the launch of a coordinated national operation against drug trafficking and organized crime, the establishment of a dedicated anti-narcotics task force, enhanced monitoring of sea and air routes to prevent drug smuggling, provision of advanced equipment, and specialized training for enforcement officers.
The program also focuses on structured rehabilitation for drug addicts, stricter penalties for drug-related offenses, and continuous awareness programs targeting schoolchildren to prevent drug use.
“The drug epidemic may involve political and economic debates, but eliminating this threat from our nation is a collective national responsibility that allows no further argument,” President Dissanayake stated during a briefing with heads of media organizations at the Presidential Secretariat.
