Three Sri Lankan nationals who were deported from India for allegedly engaging in criminal activities have been arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) upon arrival at the Katunayake Airport.

The suspects were deported from India yesterday (28) aboard an aircraft belonging to an Indian airline. According to Indian media reports, the trio had illegally entered Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka by boat approximately 15 days ago.

Indian authorities had detained the individuals after discovering that they did not possess any valid documentation to remain in the country. They were subsequently handed over to Sri Lankan authorities following deportation procedures.

Police sources revealed that the suspects are facing multiple ongoing legal cases in Sri Lanka and are believed to have connections to a recently uncovered cache of explosives in the Valvettithurai area in Jaffna.
