A pony handler was produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today on allegations of inappropriately touching a six-year-old girl at Viharamahadevi Park.
The suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged by the girl’s father with the Kurunduwatte Police. According to the complaint, on October 26, the father had visited the park with his two daughters. While riding the pony, the suspect allegedly touched the back of one of the girls during the final lap. The father, who witnessed the incident, immediately intervened and reported it to the police.
The suspect’s lawyer denied any abuse, stating that the child was only held to prevent her from falling off the pony.
After hearing the submissions, the Magistrate ordered the suspect’s release on two sureties of Rs. 200,000 each.
