The winter travel season officially began at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) with the return of Edelweiss Air, reconnecting Switzerland and Sri Lanka through direct flights.

The airline’s inaugural winter flight from Zurich was warmly welcomed this morning (29) with a traditional water cannon salute organized by the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd (AASL). The arrival celebration also featured a vibrant Kandyan dance performance arranged by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.

Passengers were greeted with Ceylon Tea gift packs sponsored by the Sri Lanka Tea Board, along with Ayurveda gift packs provided by Siddhalepa.

Edelweiss Air will operate twice-weekly flights between Zurich and Colombo, every Tuesday and Saturday, enhancing travel connectivity and supporting tourism between the two countries throughout the winter season.
