A 21-year-old Canadian national was arrested by officers of the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Division this morning (28) while attempting to smuggle a consignment of hashish valued at Rs. 182.5 million through the “Green Channel” at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
The suspect, who is said to be a university student pursuing higher education, had arrived in Sri Lanka from Dubai on Emirates Airlines flight EK-648 around midnight.
Customs officers discovered 18.253 kilograms of hashish concealed within his luggage.
The suspect and the seized narcotics have been handed over to the Katunayake Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
