The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (27) that 11,964 gold items, previously taken into custody by the Sri Lanka Army during the North-East humanitarian operation and later transferred to the National Gem and Jewellery Authority under a court order, have now been handed over to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Earlier, the court had instructed the National Gem and Jewellery Authority to examine 10,000 gold items and submit a detailed report—along with copies—to both the court and the CID, specifying the gold content and weight of each item.

According to CID officers, the Authority has so far inspected 17,760 gold items, of which 11,964 have been transferred to the Central Bank following the examination process.
