A British national who arrived in Sri Lanka with his daughter to celebrate her 34th birthday has died after suddenly collapsing while touring Ella Rock, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Brett Maclean (63), a resident of Oakpaha, Britain. He had arrived in Sri Lanka on October 16 with his daughter Natalie Anne to mark her birthday and had been touring several locations, including Weligama in Matara.
Police said the father and daughter arrived in the hill country tourist town of Ella on October 23 and were staying at a local hotel. On October 25, while visiting Ella Rock, Mr. Maclean had suddenly collapsed near the mountain peak.
He was rushed to the Bandarawela Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Ella Police.
