A black leopard was caught in a wire trap set by a poacher today, police said.
The Nuwara Eliya Wildlife Office reported that the leopard’s hind leg was caught in the trap at Nagasena Tilkulti Estate, located under the Lidula Police Division. Authorities have requested the assistance of a veterinarian to safely anesthetize and rescue the animal.
According to the report, an estate worker spotted the well-grown mountain leopard struggling to free itself from the trap while arriving at work and immediately informed the Lidula Police.
Authorities are now coordinating efforts to ensure the leopard is rescued safely.
