During her distinguished career, Jayakody authored a remarkable collection of 358 books, including novels, children’s educational books, poems, youth stories, historical works, Buddhist literature, and biographies. She also produced several radio dramas.
Some of her most memorable works include Rangira, Appachchi, Balawattu saha Bawilaththu, Kangaruwo, Madara, Ladalu Bopath, and Kandulu Badda.
In recognition of her immense contributions to literature, she received numerous accolades over the years.
Mrs Jayakody’s two-storey residence “Rangira”, located on Bandaragama Medagama Ganga Road, valued at several million rupees, was donated to the National Library and Documentation Services Board in 2021. It currently functions as the Soma Jayakody Model Library and Training Centre, providing a valuable service to the community.
Her remains are scheduled to be taken to Medagama, Bandaragama this evening (27). The final rites will be held on Wednesday, the 29th, at the Medagama Andunwanna Crematorium.
