He stated this while addressing a special media briefing held at the Police Headquarters.

Wickramasekara was shot dead last Wednesday (22) while he was inside his office. Two suspects on a motorcycle had carried out the shooting and fled the scene. Several police teams were deployed immediately to track down the suspects.

The investigations are being conducted under the direct supervision of senior DIGs in charge of the CID, the FCID and the Southern Province.

Following intelligence information received by the FCID, indicating that the suspects were hiding at a location in the 50-Houses area in Kekirawa, a special raid was carried out early this morning (26). Police officers from the STF and members of the Sri Lanka Army also assisted the operation.

During the raid, a deserted house and the surrounding land believed to have been used as a hideout were searched. A male suspect and a female suspect, allegedly linked to the murder, were arrested.

Police said that during the arrest, several individuals present at the location attempted to resist, resulting in a police officer sustaining injuries and being admitted to hospital.

One of the motorcycles used in the crime, over Rs. 1.2 million in cash, heroin, crystal methamphetamine (Ice), and drug-use equipment were also seized.

Another suspect from the same area who had assisted the arrested individuals was also taken into custody. However, one suspect managed to escape during the confrontation. Police are seeking public assistance to apprehend him.

Meanwhile, final rites for Chairman Wickramasekara were performed this evening (26) at the Midigama family cemetery. The body was placed at the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha office for public respect for about two hours before the funeral. Political representatives and area residents attended the funeral ceremony.
