A Saudi national was arrested today after violating in-flight safety protocols and assaulting two flight attendants on a SriLankan Airlines flight from Riyadh.
The 28-year-old passenger was traveling to Malaysia on flight UL-266, which landed at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at 6:32 a.m. on October 26.
The incident reportedly occurred when the passenger attempted to use the restroom while the aircraft was preparing to land, a time when passengers are required to remain seated with seat belts fastened.
Flight attendants promptly informed the pilot, and airport police were on hand to detain the suspect immediately after landing.
The Katunayake Airport Police and Katunayake Airport Tourist Police are conducting a joint investigation. As the incident occurred in Sri Lankan airspace, the suspect is scheduled to appear before Colombo Magistrate’s Court No. 01 tomorrow (27).
Authorities have highlighted the case as a reminder of the importance of following in-flight safety regulations and the consequences of endangering crew and passenger safety.
