The derailment occurred around 1.30 p.m. on the station’s second track. Despite the incident, authorities assured that train services along the Upcountry Railway Line have continued without disruption.
All passengers aboard the Ella Odyssey were safely moved to an alternate train to ensure their journey to Badulla continued without major delays.
Railway officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the derailment to prevent similar incidents in the future.
