A Gazette Extraordinary has been issued, signed by President and Finance Minister Anura Kumara Dissanayake, outlining regulations for the release of vehicles currently detained by Sri Lanka Customs.

Despite vehicle import approval being granted in February this year, over 1,000 vehicles imported through Cross Border LCs remained held at the Hambantota Port for violating Import Export Regulations of 2013.

Under the newly issued Gazette, effective from October 24, permission has now been granted to release nearly a thousand such vehicles imported via cross-border LCs opened in countries other than the country of import.
