According to the latest forecast issued showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts. Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is possible in some areas.
Meanwhile, intermittent showers are also expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-Western provinces.
Strong winds of 40–50 kmph are likely at times, especially over the western slopes of the central hills and in several northern and coastal provinces, including Trincomalee.
The Meteorology Department urges the public to take necessary precautions to avoid damages from sudden strong winds and lightning.
Sea Areas Warning
The depression currently lies about 800 km northeast of Trincomalee and is predicted to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by October 28 as it moves northwest towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.
Naval and fishing communities have been strongly warned not to venture into sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Batticaloa via Trincomalee until further notice. Fishermen operating from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota are also advised to remain vigilant.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in sea areas off the coast from Mannar to Batticaloa. Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph at times, making seas rough and very rough during thundershowers.
Authorities caution that temporarily strong gusty winds and dangerous sea conditions are expected, urging maritime communities to prioritize safety.
