The Sri Lanka Navy has launched a search and rescue mission to assist the crew of the merchant vessel MV Integrity Star, which encountered a mechanical failure nearly 100 nautical miles south of Sri Lanka.

Acting promptly after receiving the distress alert, the Navy initiated rescue operations under the coordination of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC). Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Samudura has been dispatched to the location where the vessel remains stranded.

The MV Integrity Star reportedly experienced a major breakdown in its main machinery, leaving the vessel disabled at sea. A total of 14 crew members are on board, including nationals from India, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan.

The Navy says that the operation is ongoing and further updates will be provided as the rescue mission progresses.
