The Irrigation Department states that around 15 small and large reservoirs are currently spilling as a result of the ongoing heavy rainfall across the country.

Director General of Irrigation, L. S. Suriya Bandara, said that six spill gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir have been opened, releasing 5,087 cubic feet of water per second into the Kala Oya.

Several major reservoirs including Rajanganaya, Siyambalangamuwa, Deduru Oya, Bathalagoda, Hathwatun-Oya, and Yodha Wewa are reported to be spilling at present.

The Irrigation Department has further warned that water levels of these reservoirs may continue to rise if the prevailing rainfall persists, urging residents in downstream and surrounding low-lying areas to remain vigilant
