The Badulla Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau (CID) arrested two individuals yesterday morning (24) in connection with seven gold-colored Samadhi Buddha statues suspected to have been taken from an ancient treasure trove, and 13,920 milligrams of the drug Ice.
The Badulla Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau (CID) arrested two individuals yesterday morning (24) in connection with seven gold-colored Samadhi Buddha statues suspected to have been taken from an ancient treasure trove, and 13,920 milligrams of the drug Ice.
The suspects, aged 32 and 34, are residents of the Agala Oya area in Girandurukotte. The arrests were carried out by undercover officers of the Badulla Divisional CID under the direction of Badulla Senior Superintendent of Police Jagath Rohana.
Police said the seven small, valuable Samadhi statues, reportedly taken from a treasure trove in Anuradhapura, were found in the Buddha chamber of the 32-year-old suspect’s residence.
In addition, the 32-year-old was found in possession of 7,170 milligrams of Ice, while, based on information obtained from him, the second suspect, aged 34, was arrested with 6,750 milligrams of the drug.
