Sri Lanka shines at South Asian Athletics Championship with two golds and a silver

Sri Lanka has kicked off the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championship in style, winning two gold medals and a silver on the opening day of the event at Birsa Munda Football Stadium on Friday (24).

Chamod Yodasinghe was crowned South Asia’s fastest man after clinching gold in the Men’s 100m, clocking an impressive 10.30 seconds and setting a new championship record.

Meanwhile, Pasindu Malshan secured Sri Lanka’s first gold of the championship in the Men’s Triple Jump with a leap of 16.19 metres. Earlier, Viknaraj Vakshan earned a silver medal in the Men’s 5000m, adding to the nation’s medal tally.

The championship features contingents from six South Asian nations India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives and will continue with a series of track and field events over the coming days.

Sri Lanka’s strong start has raised hopes for more podium finishes as the competition progresses.
