A 71-year-old Sri Lankan woman was found dead in a hotel in the Sravasti district of Uttar Pradesh, India, according to a report by The Times of India, quoting police sources.
The deceased has been identified as Kodagoda, the wife of Sunil Shanthi de Silva, who was part of a group of 46 Sri Lankan tourists visiting India to explore Buddhist pilgrimage sites.
According to local media, the incident occurred last Wednesday morning when the woman’s prolonged absence from her hotel room raised suspicions among other members of the tour group. With the assistance of hotel staff, the door was opened, and the woman was discovered unresponsive inside the room.
Hotel management promptly notified the police, who arrived at the scene and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. The Sri Lankan Embassy in New Delhi was also informed of the incident.
Sravasti Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhati later confirmed that the post-mortem report showed no signs of foul play, adding that the woman had died of natural causes.
Police official Lal Sahab Singh further stated that no formal complaint was lodged regarding the incident and that the tourist group had taken the body with them after the necessary formalities.
