A single, islandwide curriculum for all preschools will be introduced from 2027, Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said.
The Parliamentary Subcommittee on Education Reforms, chaired by Harini Amarasuriya, met in Parliament yesterday (22).
Responding to questions raised by Members of Parliament on this occasion, the Prime Minister said that a single curriculum would be implemented for all preschools islandwide from 2027.
She further said that the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework has now been completed and the training program for nearly nineteen thousand preschool teachers is scheduled to commence on November 25, 2025. The Minister also said that teacher training will be conducted in every province, and that the teaching process will be implemented according to a new curriculum framework.
The Prime Minister further emphasized that no schools will be closed and that the current government's policy is to consolidate and develop schools. She stated that this is being done with the aim of qualitative development of the education system and providing equal opportunities to all.
