The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to hold a national program titled “Sri Lankan Day” in December 2025, aimed at promoting harmony and understanding among the country’s diverse communities.

The initiative, proposed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, was first announced in the 2025 Budget Speech. The program will be implemented by the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs.

The three-day celebration is scheduled to take place on December 12, 13, and 14, 2025, across the Colombo Municipal Council Grounds, Vihara Maha Devi Park, and surrounding areas. It will feature four thematic zones with active participation from both the public and private sectors.

Designed to reflect Sri Lanka’s rich multicultural identity, the event will showcase the traditions, cuisine, arts, and industries of all districts. Activities will include exhibitions and sales of local products, food festivals representing each community, and introductions to new business and cultural opportunities.

According to officials, “Sri Lankan Day” will serve as a national platform to celebrate diversity, strengthen inter-communal bonds, and promote inclusive national pride through shared cultural experiences.
