The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to award the printing of 6.04 million copies of school textbooks and educational modules for the 2026 academic year, valued at Rs. 761.29 million (excluding VAT).

The proposal, presented by the Hon. Prime Minister in her capacity as Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Professional Education, follows the Cabinet’s earlier decision on June 16, 2025, to allocate 40% of the total textbook printing to the State Printing Corporation under a direct procurement process.

According to the Ministry, the prices for the textbooks printed by the State Printing Corporation will be determined based on the lowest evaluated bid price selected through the National Competitive Procurement Procedure, ensuring cost efficiency and transparency.

Procurement for the remaining textbook categories has already been awarded to private sector bidders chosen under the same competitive procedure.

The decision aims to ensure the timely printing and distribution of school textbooks and modules to students ahead of the 2026 school year, while also strengthening the capacity of the State Printing Corporation in supporting national education services.
