Five arrested over Rs. 17.5 Million gold and cash robbery

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft of gold and cash valued at approximately Rs. 17.5 million, police said. The arrests were made by officers of the Kegalle Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau.

The robbery took place on October 9, when three individuals posing as police officers arrived at a house in the Dikhena area of Kegalle. Claiming they needed to search the premises for drugs, the suspects reportedly carried out the robbery and fled using a motorcycle belonging to the homeowner.

According to the police complaint, the stolen property included 40 gold pieces, Rs. 1.5 million in cash, a motorcycle, two mobile phones, a CCTV DVR, and other valuables.

Following investigations, two suspects were arrested in Ampara, one in Embilipitiya, and two others in Dikhena, Kegalle. Police also recovered several stolen items, including a motorcycle, a gold necklace, and three mobile phones from the suspects’ possession.

The suspects are to be produced before the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court, while further investigations are continuing.
