Sri Lanka is witnessing a steady rise in tourist arrivals as the winter travel season begins, with several international airlines expanding their operations to Colombo and new carriers joining the country’s route network.
Enter Air is set to launch regular charter flights from Warsaw to Colombo (BIA) starting October 30, 2025, operating every ten days with services on Thursdays and Sundays until mid-April 2026. Meanwhile, Beijing Capital Airlines will commence scheduled flights from Beijing Daxing International Airport to Colombo (CMB) in January 2026, offering two flights per week.
In addition, Jetstar, a subsidiary of Australia’s Qantas Group, is exploring the launch of scheduled flights to Colombo in 2026, while several other international carriers are reportedly planning new services to Sri Lanka, reflecting the country’s growing appeal as a regional tourism hub.
To accommodate the surge in passenger traffic, the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (AASL) has announced the installation of 12 new check-in counters at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), which will become operational from November 1, 2025. In collaboration with Sri Lanka Tourism, AASL has also set up a temporary marquee facility to ease congestion during peak periods.
The expansion comes amid strong growth in air travel earlier this year, with Sri Lanka’s airports handling over 7.5 million passengers between January and September 2025, including nearly 1.7 million tourists — underscoring the island’s continued momentum as a leading travel destination in the region.
