Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Southern provinces and in Jaffna and Mannar districts. Fairly heavy falls about 75 mm are likely at some places in these areas.
Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere of the island after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the central hills and in Western, Northern, North-central, North-western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS
The low-pressure area located near the northern coast of the Sri Lanka is expected to intensify further and move west-northwestward. It is likely to develop into a depression over the coastal areas of northern Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh during today (22) evening. Naval and fishing communities engaged in fishing and naval activities in the deep and shallow sea areas around the island are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
Condition of Rain:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai, Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.
Winds:
Winds will be south-westerly and speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (55-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to (50-55) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Galle via Kankasanthurai, Mannar and Colombo.
State of Sea:
The sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota will be rough at times. The sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Galle via Kankasanthurai, Mannar and Colombo will be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be moderate.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
