The government’s digital fine payment platform, GovPay, has recorded over 21,600 online traffic fine transactions since its launch in April 2025, generating more than Rs. 28 million in government revenue, according to the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA).

Implemented under the Ministry of Digital Economy in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Police and LankaPay (Pvt) Ltd, the platform allows motorists to pay fines online without visiting police stations or banks — providing a faster, more transparent, and efficient service for citizens.

Initially launched as pilot projects in Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, and Matale Districts, GovPay has since expanded to cover the Western Province, expressways, and most recently, the Southern Province.

ICTA noted that the revenue generated reflects the growing public confidence in digital payments and highlights the success of Sri Lanka’s digital governance initiatives.
