Twenty-one students from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Ruhuna were remanded until October 28 after being produced before the Matara Chief Magistrate’s Court today (21), following a violent clash on campus.
The incident occurred yesterday (20) at the university’s Mapalane campus in Kamburupitiya, involving second- and third-year students. Authorities suspect the clash may have been triggered by a dispute over the score of a cricket match held the previous day.
Six students sustained injuries and were admitted to Kamburupitiya Base Hospital for treatment. In response to the situation, the university administration evacuated second- and third-year students from the Faculty of Agriculture premises.
