As a precaution, three sluice gates of the reservoir were opened by three feet each last night, according to Alikota Ara Reservoir Irrigation Engineer Chandima Senarathna.
Since the released water flows directly into the Kirindi Oya, the Monaragala District Disaster Management Unit has urged residents living along both banks of the river to remain vigilant.
