The Disaster Management Center (DMC) has warned of continued heavy rainfall across several parts of the country in the coming days, based on reports from District Disaster Management Units, DMC Director Pradeep Kodippili said.
He said disaster situations have intensified in the Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Galle, Kegalle, and Badulla districts due to the prevailing weather conditions.
A total of 747 people from 187 families have been affected by heavy rains, strong winds, and sudden flooding. Two deaths have been reported — one each from the Anuradhapura and Kegalle districts.
According to the DMC, 152 houses have been partially damaged, while no safe shelters have been established yet.
Kodippili added that, according to the Department of Meteorology, showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, Southern, and Northern provinces, with heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm likely in some areas.
