A delegation of opposition parliamentarians from Sri Lanka is currently participating in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Conference being held in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 19 to 23, 2025.

The IPU Conference, which brings together parliamentarians from across the globe, serves as a platform to discuss key global issues including democracy, peace, human rights, and sustainable development.

This year, a group of opposition ministers is representing the Sri Lankan Parliament at the sessions, marking an important opportunity for the country’s opposition members to engage in international parliamentary dialogue.

Deputy Minister of Public Defense Mr. Sunil Watagala is scheduled to address the council tomorrow (October 21), where he is expected to highlight Sri Lanka’s perspectives on regional security and democratic governance.

The conference is also expected to focus on strengthening international cooperation among parliaments in addressing emerging global challenges.
