Suspect arrested with over Rs. 100 M Worth of narcotics

A man transporting a large stock of narcotic pills valued at over Rs. 100 million was arrested yesterday (19) in the Mundi Muruppu area of Vavuniya, according to police reports.

The suspect had been traveling in a cab transporting crabs from Kalpitiya, Puttalam, to Vavuniya, concealing the drugs inside the vehicle. Police stated that a total of 359,000 narcotic pills were seized during the operation.

The raid was carried out by the Vavuniya Divisional Crime Investigation Unit’s Anti-Corruption and Narcotics Branch, following intelligence received regarding a large-scale drug trafficking operation.

Investigations have revealed that the drugs were being transported to a known drug trafficker based in Vavuniya. Police further disclosed that the narcotics were intended for distribution targeting schoolchildren, with each pill to be sold at Rs. 300.

The suspect, a 23-year-old resident of Kalpitiya, remains in police custody while the Vavuniya Divisional Crime Investigation Unit conducts further investigations.
