The festival of Diwali, celebrated with immense devotion and grandeur by Hindu devotees around the world, falls today (20). Recognized as a vibrant cultural celebration, Diwali symbolizes the victory of good over evil.
Coinciding with the new moon, the festival marks the lighting of new lamps to dispel darkness and invoke blessings for prosperity. Hindu devotees illuminate their homes and temples, offering prayers to deities and seeking divine grace for a brighter future.
In Sri Lanka, Hindu devotees have also made elaborate preparations to celebrate Diwali today at temples across the country.
The National Diwali Festival of Sri Lanka was held yesterday (19) at the Hatton Sri Maanikkapillaiyar Hindu Temple, with the participation of Hindu priests and religious leaders. Following the religious observances, a cultural ceremony was held at the Hatton Prince’s Auditorium, presided over by the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs.
Hindu officials representing various state institutions in the area warmly welcomed devotees to the temple. The main priest of the Maanikkapillaiyar Temple, Shiva Shri Sathguna Sanmadhura Kurukkal, conducted a special blessing ceremony for the invited dignitaries attending the national celebration.
After the rituals, the Minister and dignitaries were escorted to the Hatton auditorium in a special Hindu cultural procession. The event featured performances by school children showcasing Hindu cultural elements, while a special commemorative postage stamp was also issued to mark the National Diwali Festival.
