The Irrigation Department has issued a flood warning for several low-lying areas along the Deduru Oya valley due to rising water levels.

According to the Department, residents living in low-lying regions within the Wariyapola, Nikaweratiya, Mahawa, Kobeigane, Bingiriya, Pallama, Chilaw, Arachchikattuwa, and Rasnayakapura Divisional Secretariat (DS) Divisions are advised to remain vigilant.

Officials have urged the public to take necessary safety precautions and to be alert for possible flooding, as the current rainfall continues to increase water flow into the Deduru Oya reservoir.

Emergency response teams have also been placed on standby to assist in case of flooding incidents.

Residents are requested to follow updates and instructions issued by the Disaster Management Centre and local authorities.
