The Department of Meteorology has issued a public alert as a low-pressure area developing southeast of Sri Lanka is expected to bring intensified rainfall across the country until Tuesday (21).
Director General Athula Karunanayake stated that while the system is not expected to directly hit Sri Lanka, it will cause unstable weather and increased rainfall in the coming days.
Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are forecast, with some areas potentially receiving over 100 mm of rain. The public is advised to stay indoors during storms and avoid open spaces, trees, and water bodies.
