During a recent funeral in Colombo, United National Party (UNP) Chairman and former Minister Vajira Abeywardena revealed that he does not have a bank account, drawing attention during a discussion about the Bribery Commission.
The conversation involved several politicians, including Mohamed Muzammil, Navin Dissanayake, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Manusha Nanayakkara, and Nishantha Sri Warna Sinha.
According to sources, Vajira Abeywardena stated that he had received a summons from the Bribery Commission. When questioned about his banking details, he responded that he does not maintain a bank account. He further remarked that the Commission officials were surprised by this and added, “If it is not a problem for me, then you should not make it a problem.”
