On the instructions of the Inspector General of Police, the Sri Lanka Police conducted special operations across the island on yesterday leading to the arrest of 654 individuals linked to various criminal and drug-related activities.
During the operations, police officers checked 28,701 individuals as part of the ongoing national campaign to curb crime and narcotics. Among those arrested were 24 suspects directly connected to criminal activities, 303 individuals with day warrants, and 141 with open warrants.
In addition, police apprehended 11 drunk drivers and 17 individuals for reckless driving, while 3,451 traffic document violations were recorded during the operation.
Police said similar operations will continue islandwide to ensure public safety and strengthen law enforcement against crime and drugs.
