The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning stating that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur in the Central, North-Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Ampara, Mannar, and Vavuniya districts.
The Department further cautioned that temporary localized strong winds may occur during thundershowers.
The public is strongly advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

- Seek shelter indoors and avoid taking cover under trees.
- Refrain from staying in open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations, or near open water bodies during thunderstorms.
- Avoid using wired telephones and electrical appliances connected to power during lightning activity.
- Refrain from traveling in open vehicles such as bicycles, tractors, or boats.
- Be cautious of fallen trees and power lines.
- In case of emergencies, contact local disaster management authorities for assistance.
