The Ministry of Fisheries has officially announced the launch of a major international exhibition titled “Aqua Planet Sri Lanka 2025 (International Aquatic Expo)”, aimed at revitalizing the country’s fisheries and aquatic resources industry.

The event is scheduled to take place on November 21, 22, and 23, 2025, at the Lotus Tower premises in Colombo, in line with World Fisheries Day celebrations.

The media briefing to announce the event was held recently (16) at the Ministry Auditorium under the patronage of Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Ramalingam Chandraseker. Also in attendance were Director General of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Susanta Kahawatta, and Chairman of the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA), Kithsiri Dharmapriya.

Speaking at the event, Minister Chandraseker emphasized the government’s strong commitment to rebuilding the fisheries industry, which had faced severe challenges in recent years.

When we assumed office, thousands of fishing vessels were grounded, and the entire fisheries sector was in collapse. However, through government intervention — including fuel subsidies and other assistance — we were able to send those boats back to sea and breathe new life into the industry,” the Minister said.

He further noted that the government’s ultimate goal is to transform Sri Lanka into a regional fisheries hub.

“‘Aqua Planet 2025’ will serve as an open platform for everyone — from small-scale fishermen to large-scale exporters — to connect, collaborate, and showcase their contributions to the future of Sri Lanka’s aquatic sector,” the Minister added.
