The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has dismissed two fundamental rights petitions filed by former Minister Wimal Weerawansa and others seeking to annul the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with India on the digital identity card project.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena accepted preliminary objections raised by the Attorney General and dismissed the petitions without a hearing.

The petitioners claimed the project threatened national security and citizens’ privacy, but the Court ruled the petitions could not be maintained and rejected them accordingly.
