Governor of the Central Province, Professor Sarath Abeykoon, has declared October 21 as a special holiday for all Tamil schools in the Central Province in celebration of the Deepavali festival.
The Governor has also instructed all school principals to conduct academic activities on Saturday, October 25, to compensate for the holiday.
This decision follows a request made by M. Ganesraj, Deputy Director of Education in charge of the administration of the Nuwara Eliya Education Zone, to the Deputy Minister of Plantation Social Infrastructure, Sundaralingam Pradeep.
