The price of gold in Sri Lanka has seen a sharp rise, with a sovereign of 24-carat gold now exceeding Rs. 400,000.

According to the All Island Jewellers’ Association, the rate of 24-carat gold reached Rs. 410,000 as of this morning, marking a significant increase in the local market. Meanwhile, a sovereign of 22-carat gold is now priced at Rs. 379,200.

The All Ceylon Jewellers’ Association stated that gold prices have increased by Rs. 15,000 compared to yesterday, continuing an upward trend driven by fluctuations in the global gold market and the depreciation of the Sri Lankan Rupee.

Industry experts note that this consistent rise in gold prices is likely to impact jewelry sales ahead of the upcoming festive season, as consumers adjust to the soaring costs.
