Two women were killed in an accident that occurred in the Eriyagama area along the Anuradhapura–Padeniya road yesterday (16). The accident took place when the driver of a van lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and crashed into a tree and a telephone pole. The driver, along with two men and three women travelling in the van, sustained serious injuries. The two women succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to the Thambuttegama Hospital.
In another incident, a 52-year-old motorcyclist died after being seriously injured in a collision between a motorcycle and a lorry at Bulath Junction on the Madampe–Vilattawa–Hatharamanhandiya road.
Meanwhile, one fatality each was reported from Habaraduwa, Medawachchiya, Udugampola, Kirillawala, and Jaffna following separate road accidents, bringing the total number of deaths to eight within the 24-hour period.
